Biography
Darren Fletcher is a former Scottish footballer known for his career at Manchester United as a central midfielder. Born on February 1, 1984, in Dalkeith, Scotland, Fletcher joined United's youth system and made his first-team debut in 2003. Known for his tenacity, tactical intelligence, and leadership, Fletcher became a mainstay in United's midfield, particularly excelling in big matches. Over 12 years at United, he won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, and the 2008 UEFA Champions League.
Fletcher's career was interrupted by a chronic bowel condition, ulcerative colitis, which sidelined him between 2011 and 2013. He returned to football with West Bromwich Albion in 2015, serving as captain and continuing his career in the Premier League. He later joined Stoke City before retiring in 2019.
Internationally, Fletcher earned 80 caps for Scotland, captaining his country and representing them in several qualifiers. Since retiring, Fletcher has remained active in football, taking on coaching and technical roles, including Technical Director at Manchester United, where he contributed to player development and recruitment. The Scot later took the role of interim manager of Manchester United post Ruben Amorim.
