Biography
Born in Osasco, São Paulo, Antony grew up in a difficult environment and frequently credits street football for shaping his technical ability and competitive edge. He joined São Paulo FC’s youth academy, progressing rapidly through the ranks due to his pace, skill, and fearlessness in attacking situations.
He made his senior debut in 2018 and became a regular first-team player during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Ajax and Development in Europe
Antony joined Ajax in February 2020, adapting quickly to European football under Erik ten Hag. At Ajax, he refined his tactical discipline while retaining his Brazilian flair, becoming a consistent contributor in domestic competitions and the UEFA Champions League.
During his time in the Netherlands, Antony won multiple honours and gained valuable experience in high-pressure European matches, establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie’s standout attacking players.
Manchester United Career (2022–2024)
Antony signed for Manchester United from Ajax on 01/09/2022 for £81.3m + £4.27m add ons, reuniting with Erik ten Hag and becoming one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history. His arrival was viewed as a statement signing, intended to restore balance and width to United’s attack.
He made an immediate impression, scoring on his Premier League debut against Arsenal, and went on to score in his first three league appearances.
Primarily deployed on the right wing, Antony was tasked with maintaining width, pressing aggressively out of possession, and cutting inside onto his left foot in attacking phases. He also featured regularly in domestic cup competitions and European matches. While Antony’s Manchester United spell showed moments of quality and strong work ethic, it was also characterised by inconsistency in output and form. Despite this, he remained a regular squad member across multiple competitions and was part of the core group during Ten Hag’s early tenure.
Real Betis Move
In 2024, Antony left Manchester United to join Real Betis on loan, marking a new chapter in his career. The move to La Liga offered him an opportunity to rediscover confidence and consistency in a different tactical and cultural environment. At Real Betis Antony sought greater attacking freedom and regular playing time, with the Spanish league viewed as a natural fit for his technical strengths, close control, and creativity. Capturing is best form and becoming a regular contributor the Spanish club agreed to sign the Brazilian for £19.06m + £2.59m add ons on 01/09/2025.
International Career
