The draw is switched to Old Trafford, such was the financial state of Edgely Park and the 4th division outfit. MUFC defender Gordon McQueen was sent off for tackling Stockport County's Derek Loadwick from behind. With minutes left and Utd 2-1 down referee Mr Peter Willis then penalises Stockport goalkeeper Mike Rogan for taking too many steps, the resulting indirect free kick was scored by Sammy McIlroy. To add insult to injury, Mr Willis then awards quite a ridiculous penalty to the home side with both sets of fans & both players as surprised as each other. Former Stockport County player Andy Thorpe suggests the Referee was "Under Pressure".
