Biography
Lee Sharpe is a retired English footballer best known for his exciting spell as a winger at Manchester United during the late 1980s and early 1990s. With flair, pace, and a cheeky charisma, Sharpe became a fan favourite at Old Trafford. He was a key part of the side that ushered in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first great era, helping United win multiple domestic trophies. Though his career was hampered by injuries and intense competition for places, Sharpe remains a cult hero among Red Devils supporters.

Early Career and Move to Manchester United
Lee Sharpe began his professional career with Torquay United, making his debut in 1987 as a 16-year-old. His raw talent quickly caught the eye of Manchester United, and in June 1988, Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for a fee of £200,000, a record at the time for a YTS player.

Breakthrough at Manchester United
Sharpe made his debut for Manchester United on 24/09/1988 v West Ham United at Old Trafford during a 2-0 League Division One victory and by the 1990–91 season, he had firmly established himself in the first team. His versatility allowed him to play on either flank, though he was most comfortable as a left winger. Sharpe’s direct running, trickery, and eye for goal made him one of the most exciting young players in English football.

He scored a memorable hat-trick against Arsenal in the 1990 League Cup at Highbury and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in 1990–91.

Trophies and Key Contributions
During his eight-year spell at Old Trafford, Lee Sharpe won several major honours:

3× Premier League titles – 1992–93, 1993–94, 1995–96
1× Football League Cup – 1991–92
2× FA Cup – 1993–94, 1995-96
1× European Cup Winners’ Cup – 1990–91
3× FA Charity Shields – 1990, 1993, 1994

Sharpe’s ability to perform on big occasions and connect with supporters through his flamboyant style and fun-loving personality made him a standout figure of United's early Premier League dominance.

Competition and Departure
Despite his talents, Sharpe’s career at United was increasingly impacted by injuries and the rise of young prodigies like Ryan Giggs and David Beckham, both of whom began to take the wide positions he once made his own.

In 1996, Sharpe left Manchester United to join Leeds United in a £4.5 million deal. He later had spells at Bradford City, Portsmouth (loan), Exeter City, and even a brief stint overseas in Iceland with Grindavík before a short stint at Garforth Town in the Kidderminster Sunday League before hanging up his boots.

England Career
Sharpe earned 8 caps for England, making his debut in 1991. Although he never scored for the national team, his form at United earned him consistent call-ups under Graham Taylor and Terry Venables.

Life After Football
Following his retirement, Lee Sharpe transitioned into media and reality TV. He appeared on shows such as: Celebrity Love Island, Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Wrestling under the name "Sharpe Shooter" making reference to wresting great Bret "The Hitman" Hart's finishing move the "Sharp Shooter".

He also worked as a football pundit, providing analysis on channels like Sky Sports and MUTV, and continued to engage with Manchester United fans through appearances and ambassadorial work.

Legacy at Manchester United
Lee Sharpe may not have reached the career heights many predicted due to injury and competition, but his contributions during a pivotal period of United’s modern history remain significant. He played a key role in Sir Alex Ferguson's first title-winning sides and helped lay the groundwork for Manchester United's dominance in the Premier League era.

His flair, individuality, and off-field charisma made him a true cult hero of the early Premier League years.
