Biography

Ernest Peter Jones born 30 November 1937 in Salford, Lancashire was an English professional footballer best known for his time as a full-back with Manchester United in the 1950s. A product of the club's youth system, Jones made his one and only senior appearance for Manchester United in 1957, during a pivotal era in the club's history.

Following his stint at Old Trafford, Jones continued his playing career in the Football League, turning out for Wrexham and Stockport County, where he earned praise for his tough tackling and reliable defensive work. He later played non-league football with Altrincham FC, contributing his experience and work ethic to the lower tiers of English football.

After hanging up his boots, Ernest Peter Jones lived in Swinton and worked in the chemical industry for over 30 years. Though his first-team career at Manchester United was brief, he remains part of the club's rich tapestry of local-born players who progressed through the ranks and left their mark on the game.

Jones passed away in January 2019 at the age of 81, remembered fondly by fans of the clubs he represented.
