David Herd was a Scottish forward known for his powerful shot and goal-scoring ability, with a career that spanned Arsenal, Manchester United, and Stoke City during the 1950s and 1960s. Born on April 15, 1934, in Hamilton, Scotland, Herd made his professional debut with Stockport County before joining Arsenal in 1954, where he scored 107 goals in 180 appearances. In 1961, he moved to Manchester United for a then-record fee, where he was instrumental in the club’s attack alongside Dennis Law and George Best.

At United, Herd scored 145 goals in 265 appearances and won the 1963 FA Cup and the 1965 and 1967 First Division titles. His versatility and goal-scoring consistency were crucial to United’s success under manager Matt Busby. In 1968, Herd moved to Stoke City, finishing his top-tier career there before retiring from professional football.

Internationally, Herd earned five caps for Scotland, scoring three goals, though his international career was limited due to competition from other prominent forwards of his era. He is remembered as one of Manchester United’s greats, contributing to the club's success during a golden period and as a vital member of Arsenal's forward line in the 1950s.
