Early Career: Bailly's professional journey began in Spain with Espanyol, where he joined the youth system in December 2011 at the age of 17. He progressed to the senior team, making his debut in 2014. His performances caught the attention of Villarreal, leading to his transfer in January 2015. At Villarreal, Bailly made 35 appearances, showcasing his defensive capabilities.

Manchester United: In June 2016, Bailly signed with Manchester United for a reported fee of £30 million, becoming the first signing under manager José Mourinho. He made an immediate impact, earning the club's Player of the Month award in August 2016. During his tenure, Bailly contributed to United's victories in the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League in the 2016–2017 season. However, his time at the club was marred by injuries, limiting his appearances.
