John Emmanuel "Joe" Astley (April 1899 – October 1967) was an English footballer who played as a full back. Born in Dudley, Worcestershire, he began his career with Cradley Heath, a club known for developing local talent.
In August 1924, Astley joined Manchester United, making his debut on 17/03/1926 v Bolton Wanderers during a 1-3 defeat in League Division One. During his tenure with United, he made two first-team appearances, this largely down to the fact ahead of him were 1st team full-back stalwarts Charlie Moore & Jack Silcock.
In June 1928, Astley transferred to Notts County, where he continued to contribute as a full back. |
